John “Jack” Richard Vigue ’25
Discovery, understanding, and action: that’s what makes Wesleyan—and life—meaningful for Jack Vigue ’25. He was drawn to this one-of-a-kind university because he saw a chance to explore all his interests here with no roadblocks. Designing his own course of study, Jack is working to make a lasting impact on community. That’s happening in part through his study of how apps and devices affect mental health, specifically disordered eating. He says of his time at Wesleyan, “I’m not outside of the broader community here; I’m part of it.” That’s also apparent through the Cardinal Kids after-school program that Jack coordinates. In this role, Jack helps kindergarteners draw their own connections and glean insights about the world around them, the way he learned to do himself at Wesleyan. Wesleyan allows him to weave his interests together—sociology, technology, dance— creating his own path and then sharing it with expanding circles of community.
From his early years in Yarmouth, Maine, on through his time in the relatively larger city of Middletown, Jack has been thinking critically about the intersecting entities of his interests and the connections he can uniquely make. In this latest chapter of his exploration, he’s driven even less by what others want him to do and more about what’s meaningful to him.
